Baseball Betting Lines
06/02/2008 - New York, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley was chosen as the National League Player of the Week for the period ending June 1.
Utley led all major-league players during the week with five home runs, 14 RBI and 25 total bases, and placed second in the National League with a 1.087 slugging percentage. The 29-year-old batted .391, scored nine times and accumulated a .500 on-base percentage as the Phils finished with a 5-1 mark and an astounding 55 runs scored.
On Sunday, Utley slammed his 20th home run of the season in the Phils' 7-5 win over the Florida Marlins. The blast, his fourth in as many games, gave him the distinction of being the only second-baseman in baseball history to reach the mark in fewer than 60 games.
It is the fifth career honor for Utley, who was also earned the award once in 2005, twice in 2006 and once last season.
Others nominees for the award were Phillies catcher Chris Coste (.333, 2 HR, 7 RBI); Cincinnati call-up Jay Bruce (.591, 2 HR, 6 RBI); Cubs hurler Ryan Dempster (2-0, 3.00 ERA, 10 K) and Mets starter Johan Santana (2-0, 2.45 ERA, 13 K).
