Sliding Blue Jackets welcome Flyers to town

Hockey Betting Lines

12/27/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Columbus Blue Jackets will try to avoid a fourth straight loss and snap a lengthy scoreless drought when they invite the Philadelphia Flyers for tonight's interconference matchup at Nationwide Arena.

The Blue Jackets have dropped three in a row and they've been shut out in each of their last two setbacks. The team enters this evening's test with a scoreless streak of 125 minutes and 46 seconds.

Columbus, which is fourth in the Central Division with 32 points, has also dropped four out of five and is just 3-6-1 in its last 10 games.

After losing a 2-0 decision at Phoenix last Saturday, the Blue Jackets were handed Tuesday's 3-0 defeat by visiting Los Angeles. Jonathan Quick made 24 saves to pick up his first career shutout and help the Kings roll to the win in Columbus.

Steve Mason faced 42 shots for the Blue Jackets and stopped 39 of them in a tough-luck loss. Mason, a 20-year-old rookie, is 9-7-1 with a 1.98 goals against average and .929 save percentage in his first 17 NHL games.

Columbus is 10-6-1 as the host this year and had won five straight home tilts before Tuesday's setback against the Kings. After this evening's contest, the Blue Jackets will embark on a season-high six-game road trip. The swing will begin Monday in Los Angeles.

Philadelphia, meanwhile, has lost two of its last three games and will try to rebound from Friday evening's blowout loss in Chicago. Brian Campbell and Dave Bolland both registered a goal and an assist, as the scorching Blackhawks routed the Flyers, 5-1, at the United Center.

Mike Richards had the lone goal for the Flyers, who are 2-2-1 over their last five games and suffered their first defeat to Chicago since November 6, 2001, snapping a six-game winning streak.

Martin Biron, who returned from a bout with the flu, made his first start since December 13 and was victimized for five goals on 38 shots.

The test was the first stop on a season-high six-game road trip for the Flyers, who are 7-5-4 as the visiting team this year. Philly has lost its last three games on the road.

The Flyers have won the last two meetings with Columbus and have never lost to the Blue Jackets, going 4-0 with three ties in the seven all-time encounters between the clubs.

Philly is 2-0 with a pair of ties in its four trips to Nationwide Arena.

NFL Sports Betting

NFL betting action is back! At MySportsbook, all of the pro football odds are posted for the NFC North. Check out how we see the four teams in this cloudy division stacking up this year in the chase for the playoffs! Green Bay Packers (+125) - With QB Aaron Rodgers leading the offense and DC Dom Capers working his magic on defense, the Packers are a real force to be reckoned with.

Virtually nothing changed on this offense for Green Bay from last year to this year, save for the addition of rookie OT Brian Bulaga to the bunch. Expect more huge numbers from the Pack, and a relatively favorable schedule should get them over the hump and into the playoffs once again this season. My NFL Betting Predictions: 11-5, 1st place in NFC North Minnesota Vikings (+130) - There are still too many unknowns about the Vikes this year. There is a huge difference between QB Brett Favre and either Tarvaris Jackson or Sage Rosenfels under center. Plus, is Favre comes back, is he really going to be able to keep his pick total under double digits again? Depth at running back looked like it might have been an issue with RB Chester Taylor fleeing in free agency, but drafting RB Toby Gerhart should pick up the difference. This defense is still suitable, but with a first place schedule, making the playoffs is going to be very tough regardless of whether #4 comes back or not.

Chicago Bears (+350) - The Bears are probably a bit of an overhyped team once again this year. No, we don't think it is plausible for QB Jay Cutler to have as bad of a season as he did last year, and we do think the additions of RB Chester Taylor and DE Julius Peppers are going to help immensely, but there's still something in the water in the Windy City that we aren't so sure about. Maybe Chicago finds its way to .500... but then again, maybe it doesn't. If Favre comes back, Cutler might be the worst quarterback in this division this year.

Detroit Lions (+1500) - The Lions are probably once again going to be the whipping boys for the rest of the teams in the NFC North, but they aren't just going to roll over and die once again. There is some real talent amassing on this team offensively, as the combination of QB Matt Stafford, RB Jahvid Best, WR Calvin Johnson, and TE Brandon Pettigrew should put a bunch of points on the board if the offensive line can even remotely hold up. The questions really lie on defense, where it feels like DT Ndamukong Suh is going to be trying to stop opposing teams all by himself. This year should show some marked improvement in the Motor City.

The Patriots will make NFL betting fans a lot of money this season, get in early and enjoy the cash.

Sportsbook betting odds favor Europe in Ryder Cup

September 19, – Despite holding a decided edge in the all-time series, with 24 wins, 2 ties and 10 losses, Team USA is the underdog again heading into the Ryder Cup in Kidare, Ireland this weekend, according to MySportsbook.com.  The Europeans have captured four of the past five editions, including their largest victory ever, an 18 ½ to 9 ½ thumping in Michigan in 2004. Current Ryder Cup betting odds favor the Europeans to continue their winning ways; they are a 4-5 bet to take the title, compared to 6-5 for the Americans.

Despite being knocked out in the first round of World Match play by Shaun Micheel, Tiger Woods is predicted to lead the US charge and be their highest point scorer for the week, with odds listed at 9-4 that he outpoints all other American players, including Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson and Chris DiMarco to  name a  few.  Team USA has four relatively unknown players on the roster but all four are 2007 tournament winners and have posted some of season’s best performances, each earning over $1.5 million on the PGA TOUR.  They include Zach Johnson, Vaughan Taylor, JJ Henry and Brett Wetterich.

The experienced European squad includes the likes of Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, Jose Maria Olazabal and Darren Clarke, who’s emotions will be tested after the passing of his wife to a battle with cancer.  Donald and Garcia are in particularly good form and each is a 5-1 bet to lead the European squad in the points race. Donald has proven he can go head to head with Woods at a major event after a run for the $1.2 million purse at the PGA Championship. Garcia’s Ryder Cup credentials prove he’s ready for battle too.
